Here’s the Way Zelda: Link’s Awakening Switch handles the original’s secret End
Total The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening without a single death recorded on your save file and you will unlock a secret end following the game’s credits.
This was the case for both versions of Link’s Awakening released back in the afternoon, on the Game Boy and Game Boy Color, and it’s something the brand new Nintendo Switch version of this game incorporates also.
Apparently, spoilers for the game’s ending lie under.
After waking the Windfish and seeing Koholint Island disappear, Link wakes up floating at the sea holding to some driftwood. Had the entire adventure been a fantasy? No – since your hulking Windfish itself suddenly seems, flying overhead.
It is here the ending credits rollup, and following those you’ll find a final”The End” message.
But if you’ve beaten the entire of Link’s Awakening without dying, you’ll then get a heartwarming Easter egg featuring Marin, Link’s crush and closest in-game ally.
Throughout your adventure, Marin tells you she needs nothing more than to depart Koholint herself, also will wish into the Windfish to make it happen.
“When I was a seagull, I would fly as far as I could! I would fly to far away places and sing for many individuals! … If I wish to the Wind Fish, I wonder if my dream may come true.”

And it’s this you will get to determine whether you’ve got that no-death save – the consequence being Marin got her wish and has been saved, despite Koholint Island being no more.
The implication here is not as that Marin has sprouted wings, and much more her desire has literally come true.
In the end, from the Nintendo Switch variant, which will be a direct remaster of this DX ending. We see a vision of Marin, until the seagull flies away. Is Link just remembering her if he sees that the seagull? Or has been reincarnated as a soul? The game lets you decide.
It is one of the many ways Link’s Awakening on Switch remains true to the original game – that in turn proved to be a major reason I discovered a lot to appreciate about this movie. “Koholint deserves nothing less, while Link must journey to leave its shores, this model will always be an area which preserves the island for other people to follow,” I wrote in Eurogamer’s Link’s Awakening Shift inspection.
