Samuel: I accept it’s a bloated match, and the Chris campaign is particularly bad, but its battle –once you understand the full spread of skills available to youpersonally, and that the game does a pretty terrible job of instruction –offers a lot of scope for participant expression and entertaining acrobatics. Problem is, nobody actually desired a Resident Evil game to become about those things, so I know the criticism Resi 6 got. I have a certain fondness for its Mercenaries mode, though, and wrote on it a while ago. A reboot required to occur after this.
Resident Evil: Revelations
James: Revelations was most potent in the Nintendo 3DS, but blown up on the PC years after the truth, not having novelty leaves its shortcomings out in the open. The surroundings feel empty, small, and also static. Enemies are simple-minded and look in smaller classes than Resi 4 or 5, which turns out combat into a romantic event, confident, but without the devastating threat of numbers, encounters rely more on surprise than stress.

Samuel: It felt to be an attempt to merge the design principles of old Resident Evil with Resi 4 controllers, and yeah, its handheld origins are obvious. For completionists, it is fine that this made its way to PC, but it is surely no one’s favourite entry in the set.
James: Resi Zero was my very first Resident Evil game. It best power is nailing the signature strain and helplessness of the show, tank controls included. Switching between Rebecca and Billy divides the zombie survivalist pressure further, and I dig up the opening train scene because of its own royal, slow introduction into the new characters and intense, timed finale.

Sure, the Jill was equipped with an assault rifle from the offbut this just meant she had been expected to use it. 1 simple change to this Resi formula unexpectedly made the third series entry among the funniest horror games I had ever played at the moment, also left me with a few of my strangest, funniest videogame memories on this day.
James: Revelations two is the most underrated game from the show, easily. It embraces Resi 4 overwhelming battle scenarios and expressive arsenal, and then chucks it in a B-movie Resi best-of onto a wacky, bizarre prison skies. Resident Evil 2
Tim: A very important entry in this series. Expanding out from the original’s mansion setting to take from the actual zombie apocalypse happening in Raccoon City was smart, if obvious. Samuel: 21 decades later, this remake evokes nostalgia to Resi 2’s places and characters, but feels like a totally new game. What a deal. The zombies are correctly nasty, too. This seems like some of the best pieces of the contemporary third-person Resident Evil entries, with frightening minutes to the standard of Resident Evil 7. It does make you wonder what all those old entries will get the remake treatment next.
In the end, because we scored it one stage fewer than Resident Evil 7, then it technically belongs just below it on this list.
Andy K: Why is this special is the way that it combines the slow, hard survival horror of the traditional games with the intense over-the-shoulder combat of RE4. There might have been there, but Capcom really nailed it. RE4 still has it beat when it comes to supervisors, variety, and weapons, but as a pure distillation of what makes the older fashion of Resident Evil good, you couldn’t ask for much more.
In addition, I like the way that it isn’t a slave to the source material, giving old locations and encounters a fresh spin. As Samuel states, it seems like a brand new game: contemporary and thrilling, however hitting exactly the very same beats since the 1998 original.
